February 23rd EOM ride

Hello again all and welcome to the February EOM Ride. It is labelled as ‘Wey, Steam and scenery’

This will be led by our very own John Cowburn. A familiar face to many. Some familiar roads to some but not necessarily in the same order!

We will be meeting at 0930am at Billys on the Road. A 29 just north of Billingshurst. A29 Stane Street Five Oaks, Billingshurst RH14 9AE
Fuel up at Five Oaks, just 1/2 mile north of Billys.

Come earlier if you are tempted to breakfast there. We will leave at 1000.

Thence we will travel to Alton where lunch, (and fuel if needed) may be obtained. That should be around 1200 – 1230.

The afternoon leg will be a return to Billys via Old Winchester Hill, concluding about 1600.

Subject to weather and road conditions the route may include or exclude single-track lanes.

I expect the timings to be about right and the mileage to be in the region of 160ml.

Volunteers for morning Backmarker and one for the afternoon, please. Orange high viz required

BackMarker System: Please make sure you are fully conversant with the rules of the “BACKMARKER SYSTEM“. Following these correctly is vital to the smooth running of the day & reduces the risk of losing someone, or everyone. Details of the BM system are on our Southernriders.org website. If you’re unsure on the day, ask one of the attending Instructors. They will be more than happy to clarify any issues you have.
Hi-Viz: If you wear hi-viz, please ensure it is not Orange as this is reserved for the ‘backmarker’ during our ride-outs. We appreciate you may normally wear an orange hi viz whilst riding. However, some found it confusing when in the middle of the group to see two or more riders with the orange hi viz. In an effort to avoid confusion and markers leaving their post prematurely only the back-marker to wear orange. Thank you

As with all Group Ride Outs, please note that if the overnight temperature is forecast to be below 3 degrees C, the ride out will be cancelled automatically. There will not normally be a second notification if this is the case

Please be fully fuelled and ready to go prior to the start of the day.
