Leave here by midday and head via Newhaven and Lewes, through the lovely South Downs to Shoreham Airport where we should arrive at between 13:00 and 13:30.
–
Lunch Point:
Hummingbird Restaurant, 15G Cecil Pashley Way, Shoreham-by-Sea BN43 5FF. There is also a small diner to the RHS of the building with outdoor seating for those who prefer it and in case the restaurant is busy.
Motorcycle parking is available on LHS as you face the restaurant. There should be plenty of space for us unless there is another group, in which case it’s pay and display. The restaurant is situated within an art-deco building with links back to the beginnings of Shoreham Airfield (I believe it may have been the original terminal building) and we will be able to sit and watch the planes taking off and landing as we have our lunch. Toilet facilities are available in the main building.
Leave here by 14:15 and head back to McDs at Maresfield.
–
Route:
Mainly on good, well surfaced roads with plenty of opportunity to make progress and excellent scenery to enjoy! This will be a ride of 120 miles through the beautiful Sussex Weald and South Downs, in three parts, with two stops en-route.
We will head out towards the Sussex/Kent borders, passing close to Battle & Bexhill before looping back around the Pevensey levels, Eastbourne and Birling Gap for a short break and coffee.
Then onto Newhaven and Lewes, through the lovely South Downs to lunch at Shoreham Airport.
Home via the South Downs around Devils Dyke, for another scenic ride to our original start point in Maresfield.
Note: For those who wish to cut loose at lunch, the Airfield is well connected to major roads A27 & A24 in all directions for those who wish to make their own way home from here.
–
Finish:
All being well we should arrive back at McDonalds at between 15:00 and 15:30.
I hope you can join me. Any volunteers to be back-marker would be welcome for each stage and I will send you a copy of the route beforehand for your sat-nav.

*Weather* : If the prior overnight temperature falls below 3C degrees, then this event will automatically be cancelled.
*COVID* All Club Ride-Outs are governed by current government Covid19 restrictions. If within 10 days after attending the ride you subsequently become ill or test positive then please notify the club via email ‘committee@southernriders.org‘
One of the riders will need to Back-Mark so any volunteer for this please advise the ride leader when you register for the ride, if you have an orange Hi-Viz please bring it with you, or one may be provided on the day, or given the limited size of the group and alternative marker may be agreed.
Back-Marker System: Please make sure you are fully conversant with the rules of the “BACK-MARKER SYSTEM“. Following these correctly is vital to the smooth running of the day & reduces the risk of losing someone or everyone. Details of the BM system are on our Southernriders.org website. If you’re unsure on the day, ask one of the attending Ride Leader. They will be more than happy to clarify any issues you have.
Hi-Viz: If you wear hi-viz, please ensure it is not Orange as this is reserved for the ‘back-marker’ during our ride-outs. We appreciate you may normally wear an orange hi-viz whilst riding. However, some found it confusing when in the middle of the group to see two or more riders with the orange hi-viz.
So, in an effort to avoid confusion and markers leaving their post prematurely ONLY the back-marker to wear orange hi-viz. Thank you
