The Wee Scottish Tour/Wizz 2023
May 20, 2023 - May 27, 2023
Leaving Sussex on Saturday 20th May and returning on Saturday the 27th.
8 days and 7 nights in total including 2 days each way to get to and from the Highlands.
The journey up will be the responsibility of the individual. We advise to book a room for one night on the way there and the same for the way back. To clarify, book your own room on the night of the 20th May and the same for the night of the 26th. Our destination will be in the delightful town of Beauly, just to the north west of Inverness. We have arranged a dinner, bed and breakfast deal with a guest house and you should aim to arrive in time for a 1930 dinner on the evening of the 21st May.
The following 4 days will include the mind boggling views and roads of the Scottish Highlands and will include, among other stops, John O’Groats, Ullapool, the infamous Applecross Pass and the Isle of Skye. Each day will focus on the delights of riding on the most jaw dropping roads and will average 250 miles per day. It can be tiring riding all day, and it is aimed at those that enjoy longer trips. It can get rough, windy, wet and sometimes cold.
(how’s the sales pitch so far) On the other hand it can be sunny with the most stunning views and roads to ride on. Not forgetting the great company for the week
After a week of riding, we will head south on the morning of the 26th via the Cairngorms to stop overnight at a yet to be decided accommodation. The following day is left to you to get back home by whatever route you decide.
Likely round trip mileage from Sussex is 2,700 miles over the 8 days and tyre wear on the abrasive Scottish roads is high so please bear that in mind with regard to preparation. Aim to start the trip with new or nearly new tyres.
Costs will vary depending on how many bottles of whisky you can squeeze into your panniers but the outline costs are:
Accommodation – £625 at Beauly (including breakfast and dinner) for 5 nights. Accommodation one night going and one night returning approx £60 each
Accommodation on journey up and back – your responsibility but we would recommend an overnight stop for all on 20th and 26th.
Fuel – £350-£400.
Lunches – according to individual but allow £10 a day for coffees and a bite to eat (we are working on organised café stops).
Beer money.
Realistically allowing around £1500 will not give any nasty surprises.
This trip is limited to a maximum of ten people including the organiser
